Do you think some men get sadistic satisfaction from hurting women emotionally ?

I wonder if some men turn it into a gamble or some really fun game. They get women into certain relationships and comfort them and all. I was watching this on Snapped in Oxygen, the girl killed her friend because of this. This episode was in L.A. Anyway, he got her in a nice relationship and them after 1 month...cursed her out and left. I could not understand why some men would want to be so cruel, hard to fathom since they were insecure as well. It like gladiator to me except the man knows that he is hurting the girl and loving it real good.
